Lake Alfred, FL

Lake Alfred is a small city that is part of Polk County and is located in Central Florida. With its small-town charm, friendly community and close proximity to such larger cities as Winter Haven and Lakeland, Lake Alfred is the perfect place for people to raise kids or retire.

History of Lake Alfred

The first settlers of the area we now know of as Lake Alfred were people from North Dakota who came here to escape the cold weather. Initially, they named their settlement Fargo after their hometown; however, the post office urged them to change the name due to mix-ups with the town of Largo.

As such, the town went through several names including Chubb and Bartow Junction before its residents decided to name it Lake Alfred. It is believed that they named it after one of the earliest settlers whose name was Alfred Parslow. For decades, Lake Alfred was mainly dependent on citrus groves. Today, the town still has its lovely groves, but it is a popular destination for tourists as well.
